One more place to see in London while you search for original fashion pieces is definitely The Laden Showroom. Situated in the heart of Shoreditch in east London, the store concept is to support and promote independent fashion designers and to showcase British fashion. Everything is in the details: bows, prints, versatile textiles, detachable collars… The shop is full of surprises like those fun and colored hangers or those polaroid pictures scattered here and there.

This bolero called “Colors of Life” was created by the Belgian artist Arlette Vermeiren with recycled materials for Maurizio Galante‘s haute couture spring/summer 2011 collection.
An extravagant piece that makes a strong point about the boundaries between poor and luxury materials. It’s great to realise how all those objects that just go to waste can still be full of potential.

The current exhibition at the villa Empain in Brussels – a dream of eternity – is an impressive selection of oriental embroidered textiles. A dialogue between various cultures through artistic and hand-crafted creations.
Two pieces of the exhibition made me wander to far horizons:
800 butterflies flying away in a rainbow of colors by Diane Didier.
The butterfly glow-in-the-dark dress by Manish Arora – a crossroad between the colorful bollywood/indian culture & a wearable piece of pop art. For those who are in Brussels, hurry up! The exhibition closes on March 18th.
